About Us
The origin of Diocesan Book Depot at Palayamkottai goes back to 1882, when C.M.S. started it in a single room in the corner of a school building, with the main object of selling Bibles, Gospel portions and other elementary Christian literature. It was for very long a distributing agency for the Bible Society and the Christian Literature Society, Madras, engaging colporteurs to carry their books right to the doors of the Christians in remote villages. To-day the Depot has grown into one of the major book shops in South India, with its own building on the main road. Its two show rooms are well stocked with religious and secular books in English and Tamil. Besides books, the Depot deals in note books and stationery, class room requirements, church embroidery etc. Mention may be made here of one other business institution, namely the Diocesan Book Depot at Palayamkottai.
